A PRISONER who escaped whilst being transferred between prisons is still at large.

Police are hunting for Phillip Barrett, 37, who bolted while being transferred between prisons on the M32 yesterday.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary confirmed the prisoner managed to flee while being transferred on the M32.

A spokesman said: "Officers are currently trying to locate a 37-year-old prisoner who escaped custody while being transferred on the M32."

This afternoon the force released a photo of Barrett, saying: "This is Phillip Barrett - the prisoner who escaped custody yesterday on the M32.

"Barrett is white, 6"1, of large build and has short brown hair and brown eyes.

"He has a mole on the right of his face and several tattoos, including one of “Hollie” on his wedding ring finger and “BS4” on his right wrist.

"He has links to south Bristol and may be walking with a limp.

"If you see him, please call 999 providing the call handler with the reference 5219038857.

"If you know where he might be then call 101 quoting the same reference."

DCI Ed Yaxley said: “If you don’t want to call us, please call CrimestoppersUK anonymously, you could earn a £1,000 reward if the information you provide is of significant use.

“Barrett is not thought to be a risk to the general public but we’d advise ppl not to approach him directly.”

A Prison Service spokesperson said: "A prisoner from HMP Bristol has escaped whilst in transit on Thursday 21 February and we are working closely with the police to locate him.”
