Plans have been announced for a new pre-school in Sherston.

A planning application has been submitted for a new pre-school adjacent to the scout hut on the recreation ground.

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard:

The provision will be run by Pumpkins nursery, who currently run nurseries in Badminton and Tormarton.

Sherston Parish Council has an emerging Neighbourhood Plan which will shortly be going to a local referendum and the provision of a Pre-School is a part of this plan.

The council submitted the application on Monday and hope to have the nursery up and running in September this year.

In a post on Facebook they said: "We have been lucky enough to have been awarded a large proportion of funding from the North legacy so we are able to proceed, and will be continuing to fundraise in the meantime."

Sherston is currently without a nursery after Noah’s Ark nursery based on Tetbury Road closed its doors in September after operating for 24 years.

The second nursery in the Malmesbury area to close in the last year.

If the application is accepted, the pre-school will provide four full time jobs and four part time jobs.

It will be a purpose built facility offering early years education for children aged from 2 to 5 years old.

It will aim to act as a feeder provision for Sherston Primary School.

The scout organisation will also benefit, with additional space for the groups to utilise when the school is not in use, such as evenings.

Sherston Parish Council vice chairman Phil Cutcher said: "The parish council are very much involved.

"We are very much looking forward to progressing with this, and are keen to see a new pre-school in Sherston.

"We would would very much like to get the school set up and running in time for the new academic year."

People are being invited to comment on the application before the consultation expires on March 20.

A target date for the decision has been set as April 15.
