SEVEN years on from a motorcycle accident that cost him his arm, a Randwick man has been celebrating another success for his tattoo studio that he opened after the crash.

Charlie Mills - also known as 'Lucky Charlie' for surviving coming off his bike at 120mph at a racing circuit in 2012 - has been in Germany for The Ink Hamm Tattoo Convention, where he won first prize in the black and white category.

Charlie, a former Archway pupil who decided to go pro at tattooing after the accident robbed him of his job as a towbar fitter, explained: "The girl who asked me to tattoo her lives in Cologne.

Stroud News and Journal:

"She said she saw my work and liked my style and asked if I could tattoo her at the convention in Hamm as she seen I was attending that show, which she travelled to from Cologne.

"The design I think has personal meaning to her, but I was just only asked to make a design in a neo-traditional style, of a woman with the bull over the head with flowers in the eyes and all the other little details. So I made the design in the week before I travelled out.

Stroud News and Journal:

"She was really happy, and also I’m real happy with the finished result too."

The award marks another success for Charlie's studio, which he set up in his own home.

Stroud News and Journal:

"Things have gone really well," Charlie said.

"I'm learning a lot and improving all the time. I really love the way everything is working out, considering the place I was in when I had my accident in 2012. I'm really positive."
