I would like to thank the Standard for including a large impression of the Wildmoor cinema scheme on their front page last week.

This, at last, gave the residents of Cirencester a clear visualisation of the ridiculous scale of the proposed development; towering over New Brewery Arts to the right and Waterstones to the left.

I think everyone agrees Cirencester would benefit greatly from a cinema - but the enormous size of this proposal is ridiculous.

This is why the town council turned it down.

It is not in keeping with the scale of its surroundings.

In truth it’s ludicrous.

If you need a multiplex head to Stroud, or Swindon or Cheltenham.

Surely what Cirencester needs is an imaginative ‘centre of town’ cinema development, which compliments our beautiful town without dominating it.

Let’s hope the planning lapses and we can start again.
