A young Suffolk farmer accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his flat after they attended a 'Bavarian Night' at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester has been formally cleared after the prosecution said it would not seek a retrial.
William Foster, 24, of Gatfield Road, Hunningfield, denied sexually assaulting the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, between June 1 and June 4, 2017.
At the end of a four day trial in January, a jury at Gloucester crown court was unable to agree on a verdict and was discharged.
On Friday, February 8, prosecutor Ian Fenny told Judge Ian Lawrie QC that the crown had considered the situation and decided not to ask for a retrial.
The judge recorded a formal not guilty verdict.
