A POPULAR pub in Sherston has announced it is to close within weeks.

On Monday a spokesman from the Sherston Angel announced that that last orders will be called for the final last time on March 3.

A statement said: “Sadly, a decision has been made to call an end to the Angel.

“Not an easy decision by any means, with all of us who work there incredibly sad that it’s come to this.”

General manager Dave Nelson said he has found the news tough to take.

“Unfortunately, due to costs the business is no longer sustainable.

“We had to spend a lot of money to get the hotel up to regulations, and sadly it just became too much.”

Mr Nelson said that he was overwhelmed by the response to the closure.

“It was an emotional day. I couldn’t read all the messages.

“I know it is a dream but I would love to carry it on somehow, in any way shape or form.

“First I need to let it sink in and think about everything, but never say never!”

Until its closure next month, the kitchen will operate as normal from Wednesday to Sunday.

Room bookings over the coming weeks will still be honoured, but there will be limited service available.

The statement finished with a sincere thank you from the management team for everyone’s support.
