A driver involved in a serious crash on the A419 following a police chase is reported to be in a stable condition.
The 30 year old man had to be cut free from the wreckage of a car that smashed into an HGV and became stuck underneath at around 2.30am yesterday morning.
He suffered serious injuries and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct was informed by Wiltshire police of the incident and is investigating.
In a statement it said: “We have begun an investigation after a man sustained serious injuries in a collision following a police pursuit in Swindon this morning.
“The collision happened on the A419 between Cricklade and South Cerney at around 2.30am today between a VW Golf and a lorry.
“Following notification from Wiltshire Police, we sent investigators to the scene and to the police post incident procedures.”
The northbound carriageway remained closed between the Cricklade and South Cerney junctions until yesterday afternoon while accident investigation teams completed their work.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call 101.
