THE perilous parking in Malmesbury is a creation of the Council, previously North Wilts and now Wiltshire.

The area referred to in your article is in the north West area of the town, close to Burnham Road. It has always been difficult park there due to the volume of cars.

Yet recently Burnham House a disused old peoples care home, was redeveloped as new elderly living accommodation with very little parking provision, thus further exacerbating the already dire parking problem.

The site could have easily have been turned into a green space with a parking area to get the vehicles off the street but no greed from the council prevailed.

And so it will continue until the authority consider street parking when granting planning permission for residential dwellings.

The elderly housing provision could easily have been incorporated in existing developments on the outskirts of the town or they could have given themselves planning on a greenfield site on the edge of the town.

Don’t blame the motorist blame the council.

Kind regards
