Residents can now recycle their Christmas trees after the festive period and raise money for a good cause.

Cotswold District Council is joining forces with Longfield Hospice for its doorstep collection scheme.

Now in its second year, a team of volunteers who have signed up to the tree recycling scheme will pick up unwanted trees in return for a donation to help Longfield continue its care.

Trees will be taken to Dobbies Garden Centre for shredding and then composting.

The hospice help support people with life limiting illnesses across Gloucestershire.

Ali Russell, chief executive at Longfield, said: “By donating your tree to Longfield, you are saving yourself the work involved in recycling while supporting people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

"All of our services are provided free of charge and we can only do that with the community’s generous support.”

Cllr Sue Coakley, cabinet member for environment at Cotswold District Council, added: “With the season of goodwill approaching, it is great to learn that volunteers from Longfield will be able to help recycle Christmas trees and I hope many Cotswold residents get behind this campaign." The suggested minimum donation is £5.

Register your tree for the scheme before 6pm on Sunday, January 6.
