A school in Yate is celebrating after receiving a grant from South Gloucestershire Council for £74,500.

Brimsham Green School had been in need of funds to re-surface the hard courts on the school grounds.

The condition of the ground was unsuitable for tennis and netball to be played at all during Physical Education lessons.

This had a futher knock-on effect as community groups did not want to use the facility either.

However, the courts are now fully open after the repairs, with pupils at the school benefitting.

SGC cabinet member for communities and tourism Cllr Paul Hughes made a visit to the school to see the new court in action, he revealed his delight that the council had helped revamp the site.

"It’s great to see the improvements which are now benefitting more users.

"We hope this much-needed work will encourage even more people to make use of these top class facilities and it will contribute to continued sporting success for South Gloucestershire."

Terry Redfern, the Head of Finance, Business and Administration said: "The work has made a big difference and we’re really pleased with the new facilities now available."
