On the 800 year anniversary of Chipping Sodbury, Mayor James Ball and others buried a time capsule that documents life in the area in 2018.

Inside the capsule, buried in the millennial gardens there are photographs from the area, including all business owners outside of their premises.

Groups and clubs, including Sodbury Players, also provided flyers about events they have held during 2018 and photographs of members while school pupils from St John’s Mead and Old Sodbury primary schools drew pictures and wrote poems.

Raysfield infant and junior schools made a teddy bear out of old school uniform and First Steps Nursery created an 800 banner made up of all the children’s fingerprints.

The project was organised by the Chipping Sodbury Big Lunch committee, who this year held their main summer street party on the day the town turned 800.

Chair of the committee Alexandra Womack said: “As well as holding a medieval-themed Big Lunch we wanted to mark this momentous occasion in our town’s history with something involving the whole community.

“What better legacy than a time capsule marked with a plaque to be opened on Chipping Sodbury’s 900th anniversary in 2118.”

Mayor, James Ball then went on to add: “It was a momentous day for Chipping Sodbury.

“It is great for the community and I am very proud of all those that put it together.”
