Two burst water mains in Chipping Sodbury have meant a road closure is in place for the fifth day.

The water pipes that burst suddenly on Friday morning, November 16 caused issues as Bristol Water closed the road to start immediate repair works.

That meant the Wickwar Road by the side of the Ridings Playing Fields was closed, remaining that way since as nearly 250 houses went without water.

On Twitter, the Bristol Water tweeted: "If you are experiencing no water in Yate this is due to two large burst mains in the area.

"Areas that were affected included: Peg Hill, Old Sodbury, Little Sodbury, Hillesley, Thornbury and Chipping Sodbury."

Bristol Water then revealed that they had sent bottled water to those affected in the Peg Hill area.

It was at one time believed that there were fears about the road collapsing due to the severity of the burst.

An update has revealed that Wickwar Road will hopefully be re-opened later today, November 20.

It is expected that the road will be re-opened on Tuesday evening.

A spokesperson for Bristol Water said: "We are working closely with South Gloucestershire highways team to ensure the road is reopened as soon as possible.

"We have now repaired the burst and today have been filling the hole in the road.

"Tomorrow the plan is for our contractors to tarmac the road and repaint the white lines.

"Once the tar has settled and cooled, and the surface is back to full strength, we will then reopen the route to traffic."

Bristol Water also revealed that once the supply is back up and running completely there may be some initial issues.

"We are very sorry but once we have completed the repair you might notice some slight discolouration in your supply," they continued.

"If residents run the cold water tap for a few minutes and this should clear."
