Brimscombe and Thrupp manager Sam Prior says it would have been a travesty if his side came away with a result at Ardley United on Saturday.

Prior’s team fell to a 4-2 which ended their eight match unbeaten league run in the Hellenic Premier Division.

Troy Bryan and Tobias London gave Ardley a 2-0 lead at half time. Ollie Pitt got Brimscombe back in it before Kyle Pitts was sent off, which made life even more difficult for the visitors.

Deon Gallacher and Conor Harris extended Ardley’s lead before Jake Parrot scored a late consolation for Brimscombe but Prior had no complaints about the result and slammed his team’s display.

“It was dreadful and we got what we deserved” he said. “We conceded early and never got going before we conceded again in the first half and we just lost our discipline.

“We had words at half time and we were slightly better in the second half but then we had a man sent off.

“It would have been a travesty if we’d have got something from the game, we can’t just turn up and expect to win.”

Prior is hoping the defeat can act as a wake up call and can turn the defeat into a positive.

“We had a chat straight after the game and they know it’s not acceptable but lets hope it becomes the best defeat of our season,” said Prior.

“It was our first league defeat in two months but the lads are better than what they showed Saturday.

Brimscombe take on Holmer Green this Saturday at the Meadow and Prior wants an instant response as they look to close the gap on the leaders.

“I’m looking for a huge reaction,” Prior commented. “Nobody can have any qualms about the team I pick on Saturday but we’ll train on Thursday, forget about Saturday because there’s no point dwelling on it so hopefully we can try and get another run going again.”
