A FLY-tipper has been fined after he was caught on CCTV dumping waste outside a community centre in Orford.

Tony Poulton, from Chapelford, tipped two large plastic items in the car park of Radley Common Community Centre – but was caught red-handed by the Grasmere Avenue centre’s CCTV.

On Thursday, November 8, the 28-year-old was fined hundreds of pounds at Warrington Magistrates Court.

The court heard that PCSO Jordan Burke, a former Warrington Wolves full-back, was informed by members of the community centre’s management group of the waste that had been dumped and looked at CCTV footage of the incident on Monday, March 10.

A silver Vauxhall Astra belonging to Poulton, of Orlando Drive, was seen pulling up in the car park and removing the items from his boot before fly-tipping them and driving off.

Warrington Borough Council’s environmental crime team was notified and an investigation was opened, with the car’s registration plate traced back to the defendant.

But he failed to respond to notices from the council and failed to attend court on Wednesday, October 25.

When he again failed to attend court on Wednesday, November 7, he was arrested.

Appearing before the court the following day, Poulton admitted fly-tipping and failing to respond a council notice.

He was ordered to pay a £200 fine, a £30 victim surcharge and £700 court costs.

Cllr Judith Guthrie, Warrington Borough Council’s executive board member for environment and public protection, said: “I would like to thank the council’s environmental crime officers for taking action in cases like this to deal with those who deliberately blight our neighbourhoods.

“If you witness or know of any fly-tipping incidents in your area we welcome any information from residents, in as much detail as possible, which could help us identify who is responsible.

“By identifying those responsible, they can be made accountable for their actions and an example to others to prevent future occurrences.”
