LECHLADE residents waltzed their way to a successful fundraising evening, at a Strictly dance evening on Saturday, October 20.

Fitness dance teacher Sharon Wilson from Lechlade organised the charity dance night in the newly built Memorial Hall, raising £2,036 for Breast Cancer Now.

Some 94 people danced the night away, having been taught some basic dance moves by Sharon, a ballroom/Latin teacher and FitSteps instructor.

Sharon said: "The amount raised from ticket sales, a raffle, a pay bar and donations exceeded expectations.

"We are delighted to be able to give this donation to such a worthy cause. Thank you to everyone who supported the event in one way or another.”

Raffle prizes were supplied by local businesses and people who attended also enjoyed a bring and share supper.

Sharon runs regular FitSteps classes each week in Lechlade, Faringdon and East Hanney, with some 60 people dancing their way to fitness through exercise based on ballroom and latin dance steps.

Fitsteps was devised by Strictly’s Ian Waite and Natalie Lowe, along with Mark Foster, the well-known British Swimmer, and is based on ballroom and Latin dance steps to music.
