JUDGING has taken place for an art competition held by a campaign group to fight plastic use in Malmesbury.

Malmesbury Against Plastic launched the competition for those between the ages of 5 and 18 with the theme ‘the damage that single use plastics cause to our environment’.

More than 100 fantastic entries were received from a variety of individuals, schools and groups.

Judging was carried out by local artist Jane McCalll, who spent a long time carefully deliberating over the entries narrowing it down to a final twelve.

Jane said: “There was an impressive awareness of the subject and that the high standard of the artwork made selecting the best very difficult.

“It was wonderful to see so much colour and creativity used to illustrate the imaginative ideas.”

A spokesperson for Malmesbury Against Plastic added: “We were thrilled by the response to our competition and the quality of the entries shows just how aware the younger generations are of the problem of plastic pollution.

“We want to thank all the children who participated in the competition and look forward to welcoming them with their families to see all their entries at the festival.”

All entries to the competition will be displayed in a gallery in Malmesbury Town Hall as part of the group’s Plastic Unwrapped Festival, taking place on November 24.

The winning entries will be included in a calendar that the group will produce to raise awareness of the major problem of single-use plastics.
