FRUSTRATED residents are calling for urgent action to stop rail commuters blocking a busy road.

Residents are growing frustrated with commuters using Kemble railway station who continue to avoid paying to use the official car park by parking in Windmill Road.

Because of the parking, residents and motorists are struggling to access the road past the cars.

The Pulham’s coaches service to the station has also struggled with accessibility and has even had to cancel services to the stations due to the parking.

One resident said: “A 300 space car park opened this year that no one uses it and nothing has been done to get people to use it.

“They were meant to put in parking restrictions before it was opened but it’s never been done.”

Another resident said: “We have put up with this now for four years but others have been here 10 plus years, it’s beyond a joke.”

Residents want action to stop commuters parking on Windmill Road, with the addition of double yellow lines.

Pulham’s Coaches, who operate a service to Kemble Station also struggle with accessibility due to cars parking on the road.

A spokesperson for Pulham’s Coaches said: “We have been unable to serve the station due to blocked access in the past.

“It has bene a problem for our 822 service that operates at Kemble station for quite a while.

“It’s a big concern, especially considering we want to operate a regular and reliable service.”

A spokesperson for Kemble and Ewen Parish Council said: “The council was delighted to see the new car park open in May 2017.

“It provides adequate parking from just £3 a day.

“However, some commuters still park in narrow country lanes damaging the verges, obstructing the highway and causing issues for residents.

“Part of this project included a residents parking scheme to help with these issues.

“The council is disappointed that GWR and GCC have not yet implemented this scheme despite it being a planning condition of the new car park construction.”

GWR and Gloucestershire County Council were contacted by The Standard for a comment.
