Think of pub games and you probably think of snooker or darts.
But long before the first Ronnie O'Sullivans or Michael van Gerwens came along patrons were playing something else: shove ha'penny.
Now, a Thornbury pub is hoping to bring the game back by holding monthly tournaments.
The Butcher's Hook, which opened in August on Thornbury high street, will be holding the event at 7.30pm on the second Tuesday of every month, beginning on December 11.
Teams will consist of two people and the team with the most amount of games won at the end of the night win bottles of beer.
The team which clocks up the most wins at the end of the season will be awarded with The Butcher’s Hook Shove Tuesday trophy.
Entry is £2 per team with all proceeds donated to local charities.
Early versions of the game were played at least as early as the fifteenth century.
