THREE people have announced their intention to stand for election for the position of Wotton town councillor.

Residents will go to the polling stations to elect the new councillor on Thursday, November 1.

Candidate John Collins has lived in the town for nearly 45 years and retired from a career in printing in February.

He said: “I wish to give back to the community and help people who need it.”

John would like to see more trade in the town and limit development outside its boundaries and within the AONB.

Derek Thomas owns Wotton family business W H Thomas, established in 1896.

He said: “I want Wotton to be a vibrant town for both the commercial and leisure sectors and also a pleasant area to live in.”

Derek is also interested in renewable energy.

Chris Young served in the Wotton Fire Service for 34 years and now runs a successful window cleaning business.

He is interested protecting the town from development within the ‘settlement boundary’ and in the AONB, and in helping young people to stay in the town.
