A motorcyclist was knocked unconscious and left with broken bones after a hit and run in Yate.

The incident, which took place on Station Road, happened at around 10.00pm on October 3.

Alex Didcott was travelling from the Bristol direction, toward the shopping centre, when a car hit him off his motorbike whilst turning into Cranleigh Court at the traffic lights.

The car involved in the incident did not stop, even when Alex was left on the kerbside after being completely 'knocked out'.

His wife Roxanne was called after a resident nearby, who had heard the incident got in contact.

"If there wasn't someone that had heard we don't know how long he could have been left there," she said.

"It is shocking that someone could have left him like that.

"He went into hospital, he had a CT scan and fortunately the doctors were satisfied with everything in relation to his head.

"Luckily the helmet did its job.

"He has got a broken foot and hand though so is currently off work."

Avon and Somerset Police have since been investigating the incident, even posting a public appeal on their website.

In a statement they said: "We were called to reports of collision between a car and motorcycle at about 10pm on 3 October in Station Road, Yate.

"The motorcyclist suffered an ankle injury in the incident and was taken to hospital.

"The car failed to stop at the scene, driving down Cranleigh Court. It was damaged in the incident.

"Anyone with information is asked to call us, quoting reference 5218226933."

CCTV footage in the area had thrown up a potential lead for Roxanne, however she admits that she is starting to worry they will never find who was responsible.

"It is a busy road, even at that time of night," she said.

"On some footage we have seen there is a car waiting to pull out of the Cranleigh Court Road so we are thinking that they might have seen it.

"At the moment though it just feels like we are fighting a bit of losing battle."

As per the police statement, anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the service and quote reference number 5218226933.
