A rapper and two gospel singers from Swindon will join an extraordinary community choir to make a video to commemorate the sacrifice of those lost in the First World War.

Mike GT, who is a hip hop, grime and drum n' bass artists will make a major swerve in musical styles as he joins the choir brought together for a one-off performance of the First World War standard Keep The Home Fires Burning.

The song may be more within the usual scope of two gospel singers from the town, Ellen Heavens and Dapo Ibiaytoe.

The 120-strong choir has been assembled by BBC Wiltshire form right across Swindon and Wiltshire for the performance, after listeners responded to a call-out for possible participants.

The performance of the Ivor Novello song will be made into a short video.

Mary Sanders, editor at BBC Wiltshire, said: “The military is a really big part of the community here and because it’s a big milestone this year we wanted to do something special that involved the whole community.

“Of course BBC Wiltshire always commemorates Armistice Day but we really wanted to get the whole county involved this time. The First World War is a really important part of our history.”

This year's Remembrance Sunday actually falls on 11 November, exactly 100 years after the Armistice brought an end to the conflict which killed 700,000 British service personnel.
