COULD this be the first time that Halloween and afternoon tea have crossed paths?

Maybe so but this frightful feast is definitely more treat than trick.

The team at gourmet burger bar Cafe at the End of the Universe and dessert parlour Dark Side of the Spoon at Warrington Market have recently launched quirky afternoon teas which are a cross between the quintessentially British culinary experience and indulgent American-style treats.

Now the special afternoon teas – which have to be booked in advance – have been given a spooky twist in the time for the witching hour.

Expect brain-shaped cake pops, scones with caramel ‘blood’ and mini pumpkin pies while the classic afternoon tea sandwiches are replaced with mini burgers with pumpkin-style faces on the buns, corndogs, homemade nachos and halloumi fries.

Andy Kinsella, who won top independent trader in Warrington Guardian’s Food and Drink Awards for Cafe at the End of the Universe, said: “The idea actually came from conversations with management at Warrington Market who thought it would be great if someone was offering afternoon tea.

“In true Cafe at the End of the Universe style we decided to put our own spin in it.

“We are always looking for ways to make our food more fun and interesting and if we can tie it in to films, TV or music even better.

“We have some cool ideas for themed afternoon teas and Halloween is just the first.”

Halloween afternoon tea is available from Monday to Saturday, November 3, and must be booked in advance.

It costs £15 per person and includes tea, coffee or soft drinks including Cafe at the End of the Universe’s imported American sodas.
