VOLUNTEERS and allotment holders in South Gloucestershire are celebrating after top level recognition at the In Bloom awards.

All five of Dodington In Bloom's entries achieved a level 5 award after hard work throughout the Summer.

The areas which were judged included Wapley Bushes Local Nature Reserve, Wapley Common and the Orchard for the Future in South Yate.

Lilliput Park in Chipping Sodbury also receive the highest band award, whilst Dodington Allotment Association entered their own sites in the South West In Bloom competition as well.

Dodington Parish Council Chairman Dave Lane admitted that he was full of pride to see the area performing so well in the regional competition.

"These are brilliant results," he said.

"It’s good to see such talent among our green-fingered residents.

"The Wapley and Lilliput Park results represent a lot of hard work by our many volunteers.

"As an allotment holder myself I’m delighted that both our allotment sites are seen as among the best in the South West”

Pete Carpenter, a volunteer who participated in lots of work at the sites, Dodington Parish Councillor Paul Hulbert and Tim Fairhead of Avon Wildlife Trust all attended the awards in Yeovil two weeks ago.

Cllr Dave Lane also presented the Allotment Association with their certificates.
