MALMESBURY Carnival organisers are on the look out for new people to step forward and run the event so it can continue next year. Most of the current trustees of the carnival, and all of its current officers have given notice that they will not stand for re-election for 2019.

The carnival is ran by a volunteer committee, some of whom have been formally appointed trustees of the charity.

Chair, Deputy Chair, Treasurer and Secretary of the committee all feel that it is time to hand over to someone else.

Residents of Malmesbury are being asked to help take on the responsibilities required for the carnival to continue.

Chair of Malmesbury Carnival for 2018 Deborah Clogg said: "In one form or another, the carnival has been going since its original inception in the 1920s as a town fete to raise funds for the local hospital.

"If you want the carnival to continue, you are warmly invited to attend the public meeting to find out more, and discuss a way forward.

"Please note that attendance in no way commits you to any further involvement!"

The Malmesbury Carnival committee is holding a public meeting on Tuesday, November 6, at Malmesbury Town Hall from 7.30pm.
