Around a year ago the future of a key part of Chipping Sodbury was in doubt.

Chipping Sodbury Library was facing closure as South Gloucestershire Council looked to save money again over the year.

Then there was an important intervention, South Glos and Sodbury Town Councillor Rob Creer teamed up with members of the community to come up with a solution that would prolong the stay of the facility.

The ‘Friends of Chipping Sodbury Library’ was formed, and took on responsibility for running the centre last September.

Now one year on, the volunteers that work hard to keep the library open are celebrating their anniversary and are inviting the community to join them.

Maggie Allsopp, the Chairwoman of the ‘Friends’ group, was full of pride for the work that the group have done over the last 12 months.

“Since last September Chipping Sodbury Library has been run by a group of dedicated and highly efficient volunteers with the help of Sodbury Town Council,” she said.

“During this year the library has gone from strength to strength and as well as keeping the centre open on a regular basis, there have been a number of great events organised throughout the year.

“These include upcoming events at Christmas and Halloween, as well as a widely supported Summer Reading Challenge.

“We hope to build on this success and organise more events for the community in the future. It has been a fantastic year and we have all enjoyed keeping this community library open.”

There will be a celebration evening, with cake, at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall tomorrow, Tuesday October 16 at 7.00pm until around 9.00pm, anyone in the community is welcome.
