CIRENCESTER’S only Japanese restaurant has announced its closure next month.

Soushi, off Castle Street, will be closing next month on November 3 after 9 years.

The eatery suffered a huge set back in April last year, when a ‘legal dispute’ resulted in the restaurant losing its main seating area and 75 per cent of its employees.

As a result of the restructure, the effect on the business was too much.

They announced the news on their website as they said a sad but fond farewell to Cirencester.

It read: “In November, 9 years ago, we opened Soushi Cirencester as one of the first Japanese restaurants, not only in Gloucestershire, but for miles around. “Many of you were so excited to finally have some fresh sushi in the Cotswolds while others looked at our menu with shock and confusion as they tried to work out what to eat!

“In those 9 years we have met so many wonderful people, from our loyal customers who come regularly to eat with us, to the brilliant people who have worked so hard in our team during that time.

“Our tireless chefs have knocked out tens of thousands of pieces of sushi, gyoza, prawn tempura, countless Bento Boxes and introduced you all to the Sparkling Tuna!

“You all know that we suffered a huge set back in April last year when we lost the main dining area of our restaurant, and we have tried our hardest since then to keep Soushi thriving and our doors open to the public.

“Despite our best efforts, the effect on our business has been too great and sadly the time has come to close our doors and say goodbye to our time in Cirencester.

“We are looking at Saturday 3rd November being our last day open.”

Despite the news, Soushi is not disappearing completely.

From November onwards they will continue making appearances around Gloucestershire at its pop ups and will be looking expanding their private catering side of the business which offers a wide variety of different options.
