YOUNG artists got a taste of the future when a professional came to their school on Tuesday as part of the Arts Society for North Wiltshire celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The Golden Lecture was given by Linda Smith to Corsham School pupils after fundraising gave young people the chance to be inspired.

Ms Smith took sixth form students on a whistle-stop tour of contemporary art during her talk Kicking and Screaming on Tuesday(Oct 2).

The society’s chairman, Lucy Garton, said: “It’s hugely important because funding is so under threat so anything we can do helps promote the enjoyment and understanding of the arts for young people.”

Head of art Rachel Sloane added: “We grabbed this opportunity with both hands as it’s good for students to hear from experts about their experiences that their teachers might not have as much knowledge about.”

Last year the society paid for a drumming workshop at Studley Green Primary School.
