A GROUP of women from around the five valleys have taken a brave step in order to raise money for charity.

The women, who call themselves Stroud Stragglers, have taken the body positive step to pose for a naked calendar in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Members of the group were motivated to undertake the extraordinary fundraising initiative after several family members and friends were affected by different types of cancer.

“We’ve all been touched by cancer, either ourselves or people close to us,” explained Wendy Old, one of the women involved.

“We wanted to do push ourselves out of our comfort zone to do something to raise money for this amazing charity.”

“It’s been great fun but incredibly challenging too,”

Wendy explained that the process has brought laughter, tears and self doubt, but the group, which includes a 19 year old and a woman in her seventies, was incredibly proud of the finished outcome.

“Some of us have been friends for years, but others didn’t know each other very well at all to begin with - but we do now!”

Businesses have rallied behind the fundraisers to help bring the calendar to fruition, Wendy told the SNJ that the support of businesses like Alfa Colour, the two photographers Stu Jotham and TammyLynn Photography it couldn't have happened.

"My neighbours probably think we're insane as one of the photoshoots was in my garden," Wendy explained.

"But other companies such as Snow Business, Woodchester Valley Vineyard and EMpower Gym were really kind in letting us use their venues too."

Stroud Stragglers will be holding a charity ball and auction on November 17 at Minchinhampton Golf Course to launch the calendar.
