HARVEST was celebrated in a unique way this year at Bibury and North Cerney Primary Schools, with a sensory experience.

Pupils and staff took part in "Experience Harvest" at Bibury Church using material produced by the Diocese of Gloucester.

Bibury Church and the schools worked together to produce a display which helped the children to use all their senses to explore many aspects of harvest and thankfulness.

Children from age 4 to 11 visited a wide variety of displays where they learned about the harvest of the ocean, flock and earth as well as the garden and grain.

Using all their senses they were encouraged to taste bread, play with seeds and make a paper boat.

They also learned about the mineral harvest of the earth by making clay pots and celebrated our Cotswold wool heritage by carding raw wool and every child adding a stitch to a knitted square.

Both schools then celebrated more traditional Harvest Festivals later in the week in their own churches.

Visitors to Bibury Church were also able to enjoy the displays, with many remarking how lovely it was to see the church so full and buzzing with activity.

Executive headteacher of the schools Suki Pascoe said: “All the children enjoyed being able to explore harvest in such a multi-sensory way and benefitted greatly from the experience.

"We are very grateful for the hospitality and support given to us by Rev Tim Hastie-Smith and the church members at Bibury in putting on “Experience Harvest” and for the involvement of Rev David Minns in the life of North Cerney School.”
