FOUR pubs and hotels have gone head to head in the ‘battle of the batter’.

To celebrate National Yorkshire Pudding Day today (October 13), four of Arkell’s Brewery sites have got together as they fight to become the Cotswold king of the Yorkshire pudding.

The Golden Cross Inn in Cirencester, The Riverside Inn of Lechlade, The Priory Inn in Tetbury and The Angel Hotel of Royal Wotton Bassett will take part in two stages of the competition.

Stage one asks members of the public to post their pictures of their Yorkshire Puddings they have had in one of the establishments to the pubs social media pages Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

Anyone who dines at all four venues and proves this via pictures will then go into a draw to be on the final judging panel.

An independent judging panel will then judge all four Yorkshire Puddings at the end of November to declare an overall winner and the Cotswold king of the Yorkshire Pudding.

Mark Lindesay is the landlord of The Golden Cross Inn and prepares his Yorkies himself despite a kitchen brigade.

“I have my own recipe that has served the pub well over the years so am confident of a win,” he said.

Riverside Inn manager Rachel Davies says she “is confident in her team.”

“We have made some changes to our Sunday offering and we think this is going to make all the difference when it comes to judging,” she added.
