MINETY Art Club's annual exhibition and sale of work was well supported by the local community, who visited Minety Village Hall over the weekend of September 22 and 23 to view over 70 works of art.

Around 80 guests attended the preview evening at the Hall on Friday, September 21, serenaded by two harpists, to view 74 paintings of a variety of subjects in every medium, confirming the high standard of work that Club members continue to achieve and the high regard the artists enjoys in the community.

The exhibition has become a recognised highlight of the Minety Village social calendar and has seen the Club go from strength to strength over the 12 years since it was formed.

Included were 15 works especially dedicated to celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the formation of the Royal Air Force.

To mark the occasion, the Club chairman, David Brown, invited a special guest, Air Commodore (retired) Tim Thorn AFC to open the exhibition.

Tim admitted that his talents lay elsewhere (as witnessed by his long, distinguished and decorated service career), but expressed admiration for the high standard of work on display, particularly those with an RAF-related theme.

On the following two days of free public admission, despite the best efforts of the dreary weekend weather, an encouragingly steady flow of visitors took in the venue.

Included were: work-in-progress demonstrations, watercolour instruction for children, and portfolios of work created during 2018.

At the close, a total of 11 works had been sold, an encouraging result and reward for the talents of the artists concerned.
