Dear residents

THIS year’s Poppy Appeal begins on Saturday, October 27 and I am writing to ask for your full support.

Last year the campaign raised almost £46 million nationwide, amply demonstrating the public’s high regard for the Royal British Legion.

Cotswold District Council celebrates Armed Forces Day every June, and at that time we honour the military personnel - past and present - who have helped ensure the security and wellbeing of our country.

Although these people have earned our gratitude many times over, we often lose sight of how dangerous and stressful their work can be.

On occasions, this can leave members and veterans of the British Armed Forces –and their dependents - in need of financial, social and emotional support.

The Council will be selling poppies at our Cirencester (Trinity Road) and Moreton Area Centre offices and they will also be available at many businesses and other establishments across the District.

Many volunteer poppy sellers will also be going from door to door or setting up stalls in public places. Anyone over 16 years of age is eligible to help as a collector - just email volunteersupport@britishlegioin.org.uk for more information.

I know that people across the Cotswolds will give generously yet again to this campaign that makes such a difference to so many lives, and I would like to thank you all for your continuing generosity.

Regards

Cllr Julian Beale

Chairman, Cotswold District Council
