THE OWNERS of a popular Tetbury gym have announced the business' sudden closure citing ‘circumstances that are totally out of our control.’

Gym-goers were shocked to find that the Priory Gym on London Road, had closed when they arrived for their morning work out last Wednesday. Owned by Marc and Alice Hocking, the gym has been part of the town for more than eight years.

The pair left a heartfelt note in the window for their customers.

"We are totally devastated to announce that we have had to shut the doors for the last time to our precious gym, for circumstances that are totally out of our control," it reads.

"We cannot thank you enough for your continued support, loyalty and friendships you have shown to us through this journey of our lives.

"This gym has brought so much joy to so many people, friendships and marriages have been formed and babies have been made because of the community that has developed here."

Additionally the letter left advice for current members.

"We are currently taking professional advice for a firm of insolvency practitioners, who will be in contact with all members very shortly.

"If you wish to contact them in the meantime, you can contact them via email: insolvency@monahans.co.uk

"In the first instance, they will be looking to find a buyer for the business, so if you are an interested party, please contact them directly to discuss."

Tetbury mayor Sandra Ball said: "It is very sad to hear that another business has gone from Tetbury."

"The Priory Gym has been very supportive in the past with events, so we would like to give our thanks for that.

"It's hoped a similar business takes on the premises."

Ex Gloucester and England rugby player Lesley Vainikolo officially opened the premises back in March 2010.
