STAFF from a Cirencester opticians are determined to take part in a skydive after it was postponed due to strong winds from Storm Ali.

Specsavers staff at their store in Cirencester were due to take part in the skydive on Sunday, September 23, to raise funds for the Royal National Institute of Blind People.

The dive would have taken place during National Eye Health Week (24 - 30 September).

However, staff are refusing to let the weather defeat them, with the skydive now going ahead in Swindon on Sunday, October 7.

Store manager Paul Dundas will be joined by optical assistant, Katherine Middleditch as they jump out of a plane at 10,000 feet.

"While we’re both very excited it’s safe to say we’re a little nervous and perhaps even more so now because of the delay," said Paul.

"National Eye Health Week was the perfect opportunity to take part in an exciting activity to raise money for charity and highlight the importance of eye health.

"The skydive may have been postponed, but we haven’t let this affect our charity mission and we’re hoping this gives us a chance to raise even more.

"Thanks to those who have already donated, we’ve raised more than £800 so far and our target is £1,200.

"Whether it’s large or small, every penny really does make a difference."

To further boost the fundraising total, staff hosted a bake sale at Specsavers in Cirencester on Saturday 15 September.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People aims to support people with sight loss both practically and emotionally. Paul added: "People fear losing sight the most out of all senses, therefore raising money to support the work of the charity is a great way to celebrate National Eye Health Week.
