SHERSTON Post Office has changed ownership after 14 years.

The Midcounties Co-operative Food has purchased the store located on the High Street, from long-serving owners Paul and Gail Mather.

After a two day closure on Monday and Tuesday as the store changed hands, the store re-opened on Wednesday, October 3.

The retailer will continue to provide services including the Post Office, dry-cleaning and paypoint facilities for residents to use.

Products from local businesses will also continue to be stocked, alongside new food and drink suppliers from Wiltshire and neighbouring counties.

Paul and Gail said: “As a retailer that’s very community-focused, The Midcounties Co-operative Food shares our values and we’re confident that it will continue to serve local residents in Sherston and meet their needs.

“It has been a fantastic experience since we took over the shop and Post Office 14 years ago way back in November 2004.

“From our early days of fear and trepidation having never run a business before, to making the major decision to risk all and putting everything on the line to take the business to the Old School (which was seven years ago!)

“None of the above would have been possible without the tremendous support we have received from everyone over the years which gave us the continued motivation and confidence to try out new things and re-invest to provide improved facilities.

“We are truly grateful to you all, thank you.”

Darren Adams, head of convenience, South at The Midcounties Co-operative Food, said: “Sherston Post Office Stores has undoubtedly been an important part of the village and our new store will continue to meet the needs of customers.

“We’ll be stocking a wide range of locally-produced food and drink and creating new job opportunities for residents.”
