The Door to continue providing youth services in Cam and Dursley

A launch event was held at The Vibe Youth Centre on Monday, September 17 to mark the continuation of The Door Youth Project (The Door) as the youth-work provider for the area.

Dursley mayor, Neil Grecian said: “I am very pleased that The Door have successfully re-tendered for this opportunity.

"The joint youth project with Dursley Town Council and Cam Parish Council has proved very successful over the last three years and I am confident the young people will continue to reap the benefit of the quality service provided by The Door.”

The Door runs community youth-work schemes across Stroud District, through which it aims to 'create opportunities for young people to overcome their challenges and problems, as well as become ambassadors for change within their local communities'.

Business development director, Barrie Voyce, said: “At The Door, our aim is to provide ‘safe spaces’, not simply via a youth or community centre somewhere in town – but more as a philosophy of how we engage with young people.

"Whether we’re meeting them on the streets, in their schools, or anywhere else, The Door’s youth workers create the feeling of safety and security which enables young people to be open and honest about their lives and challenges."

The Dursley and Cam youth work team say they are delighted to be continuing to host the youth clubs in Dursley and Cam, and have already put in place new sessions, such as dedicated junior (11 to 13 years) and senior (14 to 18 years) club sessions, plus a monthly Saturday youth cafe for young people.

Kathleen Hanbury, community youth work co-ordinator said: "We are so excited to provide these specially tailored sessions, as we know that this is exactly what the young people have asked for and will make good use of."
