HOUSING chiefs have responded following delays to plans to build 180 homes in Stretton.

The Homes and Communities Agency, which has been replaced by Homes England, had proposals for three schemes approved last year.

Outline plans for 180 properties on land in Stretton, bounded by Pewterspear Green Road and Stretton Road, as well as 370 homes at Appleton Cross and 400 homes in Grappenhall Heys were passed.

The Pewterspear site was purchased by Barratt Developments in March this year, with a reserved matters planning application submitted to the authority in April.

It had been recommended for approval when it came before the development management committee on September 12.

But a decision was deferred to allow members to discuss the section 106 agreements further, as well as to allow Homes England to provide ‘much more information’, which is required.

Around £110,000 had been proposed to enhance the number eight bus service, as well as £10,000 to provide two bus shelters and associated hardstanding on Stretton Road.

The developer was hoping to make an immediate start on the site.

A Homes England spokeswoman said: “We welcome that this application has been recommended for approval and are working closely with council officers to provide the additional information requested.

“Homes England hopes this application will be heard by planning committee as soon as possible to avoid any delays to this important programme.”
