A popular complex in Winterbourne is hosting its last big event for two years, next weekend.

Winterbourne Medieval Barn was built in 1342 and has been used in recent years to hold educational events.

On Sunday, October 7th, the barn will host its annual event, the Orchard Harvest Day as it looks to end before an enforced break at the site on a high.

Major renovation works will be carried out on the barn in early 2019, as staff reveal they expect it to be closed until 2021.

However, organisers of the event are still preparing for a day packed full of entertainment.

Guests at the day will be able to marvel at the skill of medieval builders, and celebrate the Great British Orchard with apple displays and information.

There will also be experts on hand to identify apple varieties at the event.

You will also be able to have a go at making your own drink on smoothie bikes, whilst enjoying a full programme of other activities.

These include ferret-racing, a working steam engine and RaptorCare's falcons and hawks show.

Visitors will also be able to see Winterbourne Down Border Morris Men, live music from Bygonz, the Frampton Shantymen, UWE barbershop and New Orleans Jazz.

Other stalls will include apple bobbing, face-painting, and other children’s activities, whilst excellent West Country-sourced food and drink will be available all day.

A spokesperson at the barn said: "It will be a great day out with something for all ages.

"Entry for the day is just £3 for adults, children under 16yrs are free and we also welcome well behaved dogs.

"All money raised by car parking, £2 per car, will go to The Alzheimers Society."
