WHILE reading through The Standard last week I noticed a worrying trend - the number of fundraising events that are being covered.

Now please, don't take this the wrong way, we're proud to cover the hard work that our local communities and charities do to support those in need.

Without organisations such as North Cotswold Foodbank children would have gone hungry over the school holidays.

But regardless of political persuasion, or passionate debate on the root causes of the current position the district has found itself in, I think we can all agree that times are tough, and there doesn't seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Our job on the paper is to report, and where we see a need for investigation, or more in-depth research, we'll do that too.

The Standard will continue to cover those who work so hard to support the vulnerable in their community, just as we know that our readers will continue to take an interest.

But perhaps it's time we starting asking questions - we won't let our children.
