A Cotswold vineyard has won an award at a regional competition

Stroud's Woodchester Valley claimed a Gold Trophy for its Bacchus '17 dry white wine at the South West Vineyards Association competition.

Woodchester Valley is a family-owned boutique vineyard and winery.

It has three vineyards in the Stroud valleys which produce a range of still white, rosé and sparkling wines.

They are in Amberley, Woodchester and Doverow Hill (Stonehouse).

Ninety-five wines from 28 local producers were tasted for the annual South West Vineyards Association (SWVA) competition, held at Langham Wine Estate in Dorset.

The overall trophy for South West Wine of the Year was awarded to Langham Wine Estate for its Classic Cuvée Reserve Magnum 2011, with eight other gold medals awarded under various categories.

SWVA chairman Guy Smith said: “I’m tremendously proud to see such a strong set of results, which reflect the skill of the winemakers and quality of wine available across the South West.

"The standouts for me include a triple trophy for Langham, and two trophies for Sharpham Estate; Woodchester Valley picked up a gold from the first vintage out of its brand new winery, and Oatley scored their first gold medal in 30 years’ production."
