TETBURY Bowls Club have smashed their fundraising target, following a 24-hour non-stop bowls challenge in aid of Guide Dogs for The Blind.

The final amount raised in the challenge came to more than £5,000 for the charity, exceeding their initial target of £3,000, Kevin Painter writes.

Club members were joined at the event, which took place at the end of July, by 23 other teams including teams from Chippenham, Purton and Wootton-Under-Edge.

The teams of four, three and two took part in one hour sessions, and managed to complete the challenge despite weather even when heavy rain fell.

On Friday, August 31 Club members handed over the cheque to a representative from the charity, who thanked everyone who took part and some of the sponsors of the event which included Tetbury Lions.

Members then met a young guide dog puppy called Ugo with his trainer.

The £5014.65 raised will go towards the cost of a new guide dog, appropriately named 'Bowler'.
