Old Cryptians sevens were victorious at the annual Cainscross Rugby sevens tournament over the weekend.

The tournament was held on Saturday, July 21 and saw Old Cryptians claim the trophy with victory over Painswick.

Stroud took third place while Minchinhampton, Smiths, Gloucester Old Boys, Norton, Cainscross, Cheltenham Civil Service and a new formation of a Barbarians side, which was made up of a donated player from each team, all took part.

Players had to contend with scorching conditions and a very hard pitch but that didn't stop them producing some quality Rugby as the tournament proved to once again be a success.

The teams formed a one-off sevens team specially for the tournament and the way a lot of them played with good offloads, tackles and speed was comparable to any side being a dedicated sevens team.

The first half of the final was close but after the first half, the heat and the ground became too much for Painswick, who could not keep up with a young, agile and physical Old Cryptian side.
