A FLOURISHING primary school in Rodmarton is doubling the number of pupils it takes in, in just one year.

Rodmarton Primary School are going from strength to strength and will be returning to a three class structure for the next term.

The school which has just 31 pupils last September will have 58 pupils on its register when the children return to school after the summer holidays.

It will also mean that the school will be adding in an additional class, to join its current Acorn and Oak classes.

The news comes two years after the school's governing body made the decision to restructure the school from three classes to two.

Due to a high number of parents choosing to move their children to a private school, there was a dramatic drop in pupil numbers that led to the reduction in September 2016.

Headteacher Caroline Musty said: “Following our ‘Good’ rating by Ofsted in September 2016, we have started to see a steady rise in numbers and, in the last few months, we have welcomed new families to our school.

"With these new children, and a full Reception class joining us in September, we will have 58 pupils!

"Therefore I am delighted that we have decided to return to a three class structure from next term.”

Pupils who have now broken up for their summer have chosen Sapling as the name for the new class.

Mrs Musty added: “Rodmarton is a small and nurturing school with capacity for just 77 pupils and I’m delighted that pupil numbers are growing again.

“We are committed to a personal learning experience for all where no-one is invisible and, by placing pupils across three classes, we can continue to offer this provision, keeping our class sizes smaller than many other local schools.

“It is an exciting time for Rodmarton School and this rapid increase in numbers is testament to the hard work of all the staff and governors at our school and the continued support from both our parents and the local community.”
