121 runners participated in the 100th Stonehouse Parkrun on Saturday, July 14.

The runners were also joined by 15 volunteers, three buggies and plenty of dogs at the event which took place at Oldends Lane Playing fields.

Parkrun is hosted entirely by volunteers. Every Saturday morning people gather in parks across the UK to run, walk or jog 5km. The Stonehouse parkrun started in July 2016 and almost 3,000 people have took part in the 100 events since.

Participants and volunteers donned the milestone t-shirts being proudly worn. These are free if you volunteer 25 times or take part 50, 100 or 250 times. Under 14s can also earn a t shirt for taking part 10 times.

There was also a great crowd proudly displaying shirts from local running clubs including Stroud AC and Cotswold Allrunners.

Event Director John Tierney said: "Stonehouse Parkrun has always been a true community effort, so it was brilliant to see so many of the people who have made Parkrun happen, out running, walking, volunteering and celebrating on Saturday.

"As always there was a great mix of seasoned runners testing themselves, new runners getting great support and dogs just having a brilliant time. It was also a special Saturday for my family as our 7 month old son Jackson completed his first 5km. In his buggy."

Parkrun is free and open to anyone. To take part register once at Parkrun.org.uk/stonehouse, print out a barcode and head over to Oldends Lane Playing Fields on a Saturday morning.

The event starts at 9am, but participants are advised to arrive a early for a briefing.

Younger runners can also take part in the Stonehouse junior Parkrun, which is two kilometres, for 4-14 year olds every Sunday morning at 9am. Visit parkrun.org.uk/stonehouse-juniors for all the details.
