PUPILS in Cirencester have reached the finals of a National Lottery Awards with an environmental project.

Chesterton Primary School children reached the finals of the awards with their project on saving pollinating animals.

The school is now calling for votes for their project to help them win Best Environmental Project.

Children and teachers at the school developed a Garden and Wildflower project that has become a habitat to help the declining insect population in Cirencester, through project ‘Polli:Nation’ developed by Learning Through Landscapes.

Adrienne Robertson from Chesterton Primary School said: “Increasing the number of Cirencester's pollinating insects by changing our grounds has taught the children a great deal about the importance of both our environment and our pollinating insects.

“It has also presented the opportunity to contribute to important research on the decline of our pollinating insects.

“We really hope our local community gets behind us and finds a minute to vote for the Polli:Nation project.”

Learning through Landscapes Project Manager, Mary Jackson added: “The project has, not only helped Cirencesters pollinators thrive, but it has also helped to create an army of knowledgeable enthusiasts who will champion our cause and continue to preserve and develop habitats for Britain’s precious pollinators.”

Should the school win, the project will be granted national recognition and will appear on ‘The One Show’ on television.
