A BEAUTIFUL stained glass window illustrating a primary school's place in the Lechlade community has been unveiled by The Bishop of Tewkesbury.

Bishop Robert Springett unveiled the new fused glass window, at St Lawrence Primary School, Lechlade, on Wednesday, May 27.

The window project started more than a year ago, from a simple discussion between governors and staff.

They explored the possibility of designing and making a window to represent the school’s place within the community, and its Christian links with the Lechlade and wider church.

After months of discussion and head scratching the process was finished, with complete financial support from The Friends of St Lawrence School.

Jonathan Clark, the school's curate, led the project alongside Helen Bailey, early years teacher and art curriculum leader.

Every child in the school took part in the process in some way from design to cutting and gluing the glass.

Steve Callender, a community glass artist, oversaw and supported the process throughout, and added the final details and fired the window in his kiln.

Pupils, parents, staff and governors marked the occasion with a special celebration worship at the time.
