I WAS delighted to see on television that a railway locomotive in Bristol has been named after Joy Lofthouse.
Joy Lofthouse and her sister had remarkable careers in the Second World War flying warplanes from the factories to the airfields where they were needed, as members of the Air Training Auxiliary.
Joy and her two sisters all went to Cirencester Grammar School. Joy returned to live in Cirencester and I met her regularly at the Old Grammarian's reunions.
Joy, like her name, was a joy to know and we Old Grammarian are very proud of her.
It would be fitting for a street in the town to be called after her as it was the place of her birth.
