HERE are some top tips for keeping well over the highly anticipated May bank holiday.

Over the extended weekend there will be a limited number of GP surgery services open and so the NHS is urging people to plan ahead.

Local GP, Dr Hein Le Roux, advises: "the key thing to remember before the break is to plan in advance and ensure you and you're family are well prepared for all eventualities."

Firstly, people have been asked to watch the weather with temperatures expected to rise above 20 degrees celcius in Gloucestershire, remember to use sun protection and have cold drinks available.

Also regular prescriptions will not be available in most cases, so please ensure you get any medicines in advance before the bank holiday.

If you need an urgent prescription because you have run out of your normal prescribed medicines, most community pharmacies can help.

Keep a well-stocked medicine cabinet at home, with medicines such as paracetamol which can treat a number of everyday illnesses.

Seek advice from your local pharmacy if you have a long term health condition and are starting to feel unwell before it gets more serious.

Use emergency services wisely and only call 999 when it’s a serious injury or a life threatening situation.

The GP led Gloucester health centre on Eastgate Street, Gloucester, is open every day over the break between 8am and 8pm, so please call 01452 336290 to make an appointment.
