A VIRTUAL Dementia Tour is coming to Malmesbury to help families identify and understand the behaviours of those living with the disease.

The Beeches Homecare Services will be hosting a free tour at their Malmesbury offices next month.

The tour is an experience designed to help families, caregivers and organisations identify with and understand the behaviours and needs of those living with dementia.

It is scientifically and medically proven to be the closest simulation of dementia that a person with a healthy brain can experience.

Starting with a 30 minute sensory disorientation journey where participants will be guided through common, everyday tasks and exercises, people on the tour can experience the physical and mental challenges faced by those with dementia.

In the UK, the number of deaths caused by dementia and Alzheimer’s disease has risen by 60% since 2001 and is now killing more people than heart disease or cancer.

Latest studies show that of all the people who were born in the United Kingdom in the year 2015, one in three are expected to eventually die from some form of dementia.

The tour is being generously funded by The Malmesbury League of Friends, a local Charitable Trust.

Taking place on May 15, the tours will take place between 9.30am to 12pm, 12.15pm to 2.45pm and 3pm to 5.15pm.

Complimentary light refreshments will be available.
