NORTHLEACH & Fosse Lions Club members joined with 15 local residents who gathered at the Town Council offices in Moreton in Marsh on the morning of Saturday, March 24 to take part in the town’s annual spring clean and litter pick.

Cake and hot drinks were on offer to all participants when they returned to the offices at midday with sacks full of paper, cardboard, food wrappers, tin cans and empty glass bottles.

The Moreton in Marsh event was part of the national ‘Great British Spring Clean’ during March and April.

The Lions Club are also helping to organise a similar event in Northleach, gathering at the Pavillion by the town’s sports fields on the morning of Saturday, April 21, the Queen’s actual ‘unofficial’ birthday. Participants will again rewarded with hot drinks and cakes baked on this occasion by Lions Club members.

Both events are supported by Cotswold District Council. CDC provide litter picker sticks, gloves, rubbish bags and Hi-Viz jackets, and agree to dispose of the rubbish collected.

Last year the Northleach team won first prize in CDC’s competition for all local community teams in the district who participated in the ‘Great British Spring Clean’.

The club’s next planned event will be the first of four ‘Lions Famous Coffee & Cakes’ days, at Victoria Hall in Bourton-on-the-Water from 11am to 4pm on Tuesday, May 1. All proceeds will go to community and charity causes.

Local residents of the North Cotswolds area are encouraged to put forward ideas for community projects which might be supported by their Lions club, whether through community service or fundraising activity.

All are welcome to attend the club’s regular meetings, which are now being held at the Cotswold Hall in West End, Northleach on the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 8 at 8pm.
